Samsung C&T obtained globally applicable ISCC certificates for its SAF business

In May 2024, Samsung C&T's Trading & Investment Group (hereinafter "Samsung C&T") obtained globally applicable sustainability certificates for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Feedstock supply business. The certificates include two types of the International Sustainability and Carbon Certifications (ISCC), namely ISCC EU & ISCC CORSIA.

The ISCC is an international certification system that certifies the sustainable production of all kinds of bio-based materials, biomass, circular resources, and renewable energy. The system certifies an end-to-end process from production of raw materials to release of final goods and checks whether companies have met environmental and societal criteria such as environmental protection, biodiversity preservation, sustainable agricultural practices, carbon reduction, social responsibility, etc.

As Samsung C&T is currently striving to source clean materials to SAF producers, the latest obtainment of certificates has strengthened the company's business competitiveness in the market. The two certificates the company received in May are ISCC EU and ISCC CORSIA. ISCC EU, recognized by the European Union, is a certificate that requires companies to meet the sustainability criteria for biofuel. ISCC CORSIA, which is developed and introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a United Nations agency, is a certificate that approves SAF as eligible green fuels in certain markets.

Meanwhile, Samsung C&T previously received a number of other green certificates including Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and ISO 14001 as part of efforts to strengthen its eco-friendly business portfolio.
