HyStation completes the construction of its first hydrogen refueling station “HyStation,” a consortium where Samsung C&T Trading & Investment Group (hereinafter "Samsung C&T") is participating in, held a ceremony to celebrate the construction of its first hydrogen refueling station in Tongyeong, a city in South Gyeongsang Province of South Korea, on June 14th. Established in 2022, HyStation is a joint venture of six companies including Korea Gas Corporation, Hyundai Rotem, and Woodside, that aims to build and operate a network of hydrogen refueling stations. The construction of the hydrogen refueling station in Tongyeong holds much significance in that it is capable of onsite hydrogen production, going beyond the traditional off-site production where hydrogen produced outside is delivered to the station for refueling. The station in Tongyeong is equipped to produce up to 467 tons of hydrogen per year, which is the amount of hydrogen that can fully charge about 26,000 hydrogen buses per year. HyStation's primary plan is to first, expand the hydrogen fueling network for public transport bus fleets particularly in areas where demand is expected to be stable, and then target commercial vehicles such as trucks, street cleaning vehicles, etc. as well as other areas besides Tongyeong. Meanwhile, with the aim of developing an eco-friendly business portfolio, Samsung C&T has been promoting the hydrogen business to import clean hydrogen and ammonia from abroad and to build a stable supply chain, since 2021, when the hydrogen ecosystem was in its infancy.
