◇The two companies will jointly develop a clean hydrogen supply chain into South Korea

On May 25, Samsung C&T’s Trading & Investment Group held the signing ceremony for an MOU on clean hydrogen business with PETRONAS Hydrogen, a subsidiary of PETRONAS, a national energy business of Malaysia, during the 28th World Gas Conference 2022.

After the ceremony, which was designed to replace the one tentatively carried out online last March, the two parties engaged in working-level talks and exchanged MOU.

The World Gas Conference, held every three years hosted by the International Gas Union (IGU), is the largest international event of the global gas industry. This year’s event is being held in Korea for four days from May 24, with 460 businesses from 80 countries in attendance.

Samsung C&T has already worked together with PETRONAS in the field of LNG trading for years, and is now considering the possibility of importing clean hydrogen to Korea under the terms of the MOU it has signed with PETRONAS Hydrogen.

PETRONAS aims to reduce Malaysia carbon emissions to Net Zero by 2050 by implementing diverse hydrogen and renewable energy programs.

As for Samsung C&T, it is pursuing collaboration in the hydrogen business with capable partners specializing in energy in connection with its effort to expand its eco-friendly business sectors. It will continue to explore new business areas with its partners while striving to lay the groundwork in promising sectors and to make a significant contribution to society.
