Samsung C&T Corporation is proud to announce its inclusion in the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).
Specifically, the company was listed in the DJSI World index, the main global index of the DJSI, in addition to the subset Asia Pacific and Korea indices, marking its 3rd consecutive year of being listed in the world-renowned family of sustainability indices.
The DJSI indices are updated annually by global market information firm S&P Dow Jones Indices, which component companies selected from a pool of the world’s top 2,500 market cap companies based on not only economic performance but environmental, social, and governance-related criteria.
This year, a total of 318 companies have been selected for DJSI World index, among which 19 including Samsung C&T are based in Korea.
In the case of Samsung C&T, the company has continuously pursued both profitable growth and governance enhancement since its merger with Cheil Industries in 2015.
Trend-setting achievements in ESG such as separation of the Chairman of the Board and CEO roles, recruitment of a non-Korean global business leader as independent director, and introduction of a CSR Committee under the Board of Directors have all contributed to the company's incorporation into the DJSI.
Going forward, as socially responsible investment becomes a mainstream trend among institutional and individual investors alike, Samsung C&T plans to continue to strengthen its efforts toward realizing sustainable management.
