On July 11, Shanghai Office of Samsung C&T China donated 600 books bought from the proceeds of the in-house bazaar to Wenkucun Elementary School in China.
The bazaar was held for two days in May with the participation of the executives and staff members of the Office and the support fund provided by the company. The donated items were mostly those that were not in use or received as gifts, amounting to some CNY 2,400 in profit. Employees of Samsung C&T China discussed about how the money could be used most effectively and decided to donate books to Wenkucun Elementary School.
Located in Yongpingxian─a small agricultural village in Dali, Yunnan Province─Wenkucun Elementary School mostly teaches students of minority groups. Samsung C&T China built a small library for the 200 students ranging from first to sixth grade. The students sent thank you messages to the members of Shanghai Office for making a book corner for them.
In particular, the Shanghai City Government, which has signed a sisterhood relationship agreement with the underprivileged residents of Yunnan Province and dispatched government officials to provide assistance, greatly appreciated Samsung C&T China for its social contribution activities that promote win-win growth together with the local community.
Vice President Ji-han Yoo of Samsung C&T China said, “We planned this book donation as a way to help the local community. We will continue to make efforts to contribute to the local community.”
