Samsung C&T’s Overseas Volunteers visited Dala Primary School No. 19 in the southern region of Yangon, Myanmar for five days from July 30 to August 3 to engage in volunteer service.
As a poor district with a river separating it from the downtown area of Yangon, Dala suffers from insufficient social infrastructure including electricity and waterworks, and most of its residents live on an income below the minimum level designated by the World Bank.
The Overseas Volunteers composed of thirty individuals including executives and staff members and their families -- in cooperation with international aid organization Plan International and local company Diamond Star -- participated in repairing the interior and exterior of the school building, painting the classroom walls, building shoe racks, installing water fountains, creating new playgrounds, and other activities of improving the school facilities and educational environment.
This year marks the seventh year since Samsung C&T started its overseas volunteer service in India in 2011, with executives and staff members and their families utilizing their individual vacation time to participate in volunteer service every year.
